Re: Return to Zork: ANOTHER new problem....
I tried using our saved games and I get the corrupted screen from both saves. It's pretty weird. With the 1st save, I'm looking at the Cliffs of Depression. If I turn around, it's the clown. But if I move toward the Cliffs and then turn around, I get your corrupted screen. If I move forward on...

Re: Return to Zork: ANOTHER new problem....
I've had the first problem you mentioned (bridge not going down far enough) but I've never seen the new problem you described. I don't know if this would help for your new problem or not, and even if it does, it's not really very satisfying. But when I was sure that I absolutely did everything I wa...

Re: Infocom's lost network drive - found
I was going to post but I thought I was likely the last to know. (I found it last week.) Siriusstar, Sorry I scooped you on the post. The thing that led me to discover it was Zorket's comment about the XYZZY page. That got me to thinking that I hadn't visited the XYZZY News page in a while http:...

Infocom's lost network drive - found
If you are an Infocom fan (the original implementers of Zork) something amazing has just surfaced on the Internet. It's new. Only been up since April. Here's the link: http://waxy.org/2008/04/milliways_infocoms_unreleased_sequel_to_hitchhikers_guide_to_the_galax/index.shtml And here's the lead in ...

Re: Adventure history and photos
Wow! That's an amazing site. I always thought this: http://www.rickadams.org/adventure/ was the ultimate Colossal Cave Adventure Page, but the DHQ site has more than I ever dreamed of. Will take a fair bit of time to absorbe it all.

Is this new upgrade you're talking about for the system on which TZL is hosted? If so, will we notice anything different?

Re: ZGI and nemesis problems under XP.
I have had this up for some time now. Yeah. I was pretty sure I remembered reading about this here, but I thought it was on the message board. I looked through the message postings and couldn't find it, so I experimented myself and posted the results. Didn't think to look on the main site. Than...

Re: ZGI and nemesis problems under XP.
I used the Inferno instructions for installing Nemesis on XP several months ago and it worked fine. But you have to copy all of the CDs to the hard disk. OK. Hard disks are so big these days, it doesn't really matter. But if you don't want to have to copy all of the games to the Hard disk, there...

Re: William Morgan Sheppard
A few minutes ago I started a new post regarding another WMS sighting, but then I noticed that we already had a thread for him, so I deleted my post and tacked it on here instead: I wanted to mention that William Morgan Sheppard (the guy who played Bishop Francois Malveaux in Zork Nemesis) was in th...

Re: A very very Zork-themed book!
In the original Zork games you are exploring an uninhabited underground world that is mostly in ruins.
It was precisely the underground, uninhabited ruins that mostly made me think of Zork - and the puzzles.
You might say that NT2 was a bit more like Adventure or Colossal Cave.

Re: A very very Zork-themed book!
While we're on the subject of Zork-themed fiction that isn't really Zork - The recent sequel movie National Treasure 2 was very Zork-like. Quite a bit of this one takes place in a vast underground with many secret doors and passageways, old artifacts, underground temples, objects that become keys t...

Re: A very very Zork-themed book!
I looked these books up on Amazon today. The first book, "Tunnels" is available for $12. But the second book, "The Highfield Mole" is only available from used booksellers of which they have three listed ranging in price from $299.99, $690.99 and $2,250.00. So if you already h...

Re: Patches for Nemesis
Many moons ago I tried playing Nemesis on my XP laptop (after using copying the CDs to the hard disk and editing the zix file.) It played great, except for a crash in the later parts of Iron Dune. Today, I was fooling around and set the compatibility mode for Win95 in the shortcut parameters. Af...

The castle in GI
I recently finished playing Grand Inquisitor for the Nth time, and every time I play there is one thing that always makes me wonder. Whenever you go in the castle, you can look up to see the beating heart or you can look down and zoom on an ornate plate on the floor with a nice Zorkian "Z&quo...
