Anti-spam measures

I have noticed a few spam accounts/threads created over the last several weeks, so I installed an anti-spam plugin for phpbb. Sorry if there was any weirdness with the website over the past hour or so, I was playing with the settings. There's now a "flag user" link that you can click to notify me of any users that appear to be spamming and got through the filter.

If you have any problems with the new website now and can't get through on the forum, you can e-mail me directly at thezorklibrary [at] gmail . If I set it up correctly, there will be less spam and your posts shouldn't be impeded in any way.

Since we've been getting a lot more spam recently, I made a few modifications to how registration works:
  • Switched from the basic phpBB captcha to recaptcha, which should be harder to crack.
  • Reduced the number of retries for failing the captcha.
  • Using StopForumSpam's blacklist to block known spam e-mail addresses, IP addresses and usernames from registering.
For forum mods out there, the one-click ban button on user profiles now works properly. It was broken before.

If this breaks anything, let me know by e-mail at thezorklibrary [at] gmail .

Sorry if any of you ran into the problems that one of the new anti-spam plugins caused this morning.

I have disabled that plugin and won't be putting it back until I can vouch for the safety of every line of code.
