Re: text adventure documentary!
I remember being alerted to this more than a year ago on one of the interactive fiction newsgroups. But not having heard any updates in a long time, completely forgot about it. I am glad to hear that the project still continues and am amazed at how far alon it seems to be. Very exciting stuff.

Re: need some Beyond Zork help
One thing: Compassion is more important than it seems. I'm a little worried about that. I did not start out with much Compassion. Only 7%. In order to get past all those creatures in the Cellar and the Lighthouse I put most of my potential into endurance, strength and dexterity. Good Adventure...

Re: need some Beyond Zork help
hack your save file? There's an idea. After I started over with a little higher intelligence setting, I *still* couldn't read all the scrolls! I was getting very impatient with this game. After looking through the manual for anyting that affects intelligence, I saw that Red Herring was consider...

need some Beyond Zork help
I've been playing Beyond Zork for a couple of days. I did all the stuff in the cellar, got the onion, did all the stuff in the Lighthouse, vanquished the MonkeyGrinder and collected a stave, wand, rod and stick plus a few scrolls. The problem is that my character doesn't seem to have enough intel...

Re: Bite-sized fan games
I don't know how I never noticed this before, but I was reading through the Beyond Zork manual and found that there is a "mode" command that allows the layer to switch between the standard or enhanced display. After all these years I finally discover the obvious! I find I can even play...

Re: Bite-sized fan games
I like Zork Zero a lot. I don't remember how long it took me, but I'm sure it was on the order of weeks. What do you think of Beyond Zork? I have never been able to play that game all the way through. Part of the reason is that there are many things I don't like about it, so I lose interest. I ...

Re: Bite-sized fan games
That's just off the top of my head. I'm re-working my way slowly through all the Zork games chronologically on my laptop. I'm sure I'll see lots of mini game opportunities as I go. Smiley That is impressive! It would take me months if not years to play all of those games. When you say chronologic...

Re: Bite-sized fan games
We have some graphic game snobs here that don't want anything to do with text adventures. OK. I accept that. I suggest that the best bet for a small, graphic Zork game would be to adapt the scene in which Antheria Jack is freed from his cell in Grand Inquisitor and he then sneaks around to get all ...

Bite-sized fan games
This thread is a continuation of a thread that started in Non-Zork Chat called "A short Tex Murphy demo by DrPaul" We talked about resurrecting the idea of developing a fan-based game by way of creating small 'bite-sized' games which have a better chance at reaching completion. There were...

Re: A short Tex Murphy demo by DrPaul
I'm continuing this thread over on Zork Chat since we have turned the corner to Zork. It will be under the topic "Bite-sized fan games". Not that this thread has to die. For instance, have any of you guys played the short Tex Murphy games I posted on my website. If not, why not? (I'm not...

Re: A short Tex Murphy demo by DrPaul
I am glad you guys like this idea. I think it is a way we can resurrect the fan-game in a manner that has a good chance of success. I think we have many options and wouldn't necessarily have to be restricted to one. Let me just list a few possibilities: 1. Very small episode that fills in the blan...
