Is everyone aware of what's going on with Jolt?...

Post by MacCentris »

Lately, Jolt has been closing many games, and now people in the Jolt forums are beginning to panic, some even see a pattern as to what could happen, and many are sure that Legends of Zork will be closing soon too. I'm obviously not happy about that, that's the only thing I look for when I go to the web lately. The internet is just not fit for "gaming" in my eyes, but Legends of Zork was an option I was beginning to get accustomed to.

What is this all about? Well, see for yourself:

Yes! Zork stays...

Post by MacCentris »

Ok this is a relief and at least 48 hours after I initially saw the announcement of the game(s) that were being closed, so the wait to hear what was going to happen to Legends of Zork was an eternity, a very sour eternity; which has come to a positive end.

Zork and Jolt will continue to hold their names together for hopefully a few more years, so I'm going to be happy about that. To be terribly honest, it still doesn't sound like a definite "YES ZORK is staying" because that's what they said for Nation States 2, then all of a sudden they removed the game entirely. But I also know how corporate moves work and that when people are told a site has to close, it has to close. Such is the case of that wonderful Canadian Edutainment game developer Hoffman & Associates does anybody remember "Nikolai and Neow-neow" in the late 90s? Well, a huge company (yes they were partnered with Corel back then) forced to close down because they couldn't come up with $25,000 for their rent. That sounds like a lot of money, but according to them they were only a week away from achieving that; but the deadline came first. Anyway, edutainment software was something of the nineties (does anybody even remember that word): http://answers.wikia.com/wiki/Why_did_H ... ck_in_2001

Anyway, Jolt has been pretty honest in all posts, to keep the games running and paying the developers properly it takes more money than they were making with those games. I think the cost is not necessarily to keep the games running but mostly the maintenance and bug fixing, those are the ones that can come to extreme costs.

Something tells me Jolt was juggling more games than it could handle.

Darn I noticed that was posted on the 17th but didn't realize it was back in September, darn it, the date/time stamp is different in UK, I forgot about that. I'm not sure what's going to happen now. I hope Zork will stay after all. :-\

Me too! I've made a habit out of adventuring whilst having my morning coffee. ;)
