There is a German guy called LucasFan who runs a team of people doing fan games. They recently released a 256 color VGA version of Maniac Mansion (klick), and they did The new adventures of Zak McKracken as well.
Germany's biggest online magazine for adventures, Adventure-Treff.de, currently has a poll (klick) in their forum which asks which project LucasFan should consider next. And guess what... Among others there's an option for a graphical Zork game.
The forum is in German, but the poll should be easy to handle. And as far as I know you don't have to register. Check the LucasFan page (English language available), check the poll, and consider dropping a vote...
