8.01 Alchemists First Four-Way Dialogue
Following the speech of the fourth character the player sees the following characters speak from the medallion area of their sarcophagi.

SOPHIA
(to camera)
Do you understand what we're fighting? He'll kill anyone who stands in his way. Look at Alexandria, Lucien.

MALVEAUX
It's all our faults that--

SOPHIA
(softly cutting him off)
We all made mistakes, old friend. Terrible mistakes. Maybe now we have the chance to correct them.

SFX - SOFT RUMBLES

KAINE
Quiet! Listen!

SFX - RUMBLES INTENSIFY IN VOLUME
8.01 Alchemists First Four-Way Dialogue

SOPHIA
(to camera)

I repeat the same comment in reference to Sophia's speech.
8.02 First Contact with the Nemesis
The alchemists react to the sound. THE TEMPLE BEGINS TO SHAKE. ANGLE ON THE ARCHWAY NEXT TO THE CLOISTER AS A HUGE SHADOW rises, followed by mist in the outline of an enormous MAN. Whoever throws that shadow must be twenty feet tall.

It is the NEMESIS (note: the shadow was an illusion and dissipates). As he walks toward us from the Cloister, his hooded robe obscures but doesn't hide his face. From the light of his torch, we catch glimpses of a strong chin, prominent cheekbones, a vicious scar running from the corner of his mouth to his hairline. His eyes are white. He seems lost in a dark reverie.

NEMESIS
There is a shiver in my veins.

He sees us and freezes for a beat.

NEMESIS
You really must be a fool to enter here. And fools make such dull sport.
(sarcastic)
Have you come to save the day?
(scrutinizes the player thoughtfully)
But -- wait. We're the same blood, you and I. Connected somehow. I feel it -- in this wound in my side.... This wound no amount of spenseweed will heal...
(shaking it off)
Why have you come, fool? To turn your worthless ore into gold? To trade a few pitiful years for eternal life?
(laughs, draws CLOSER)
You seek the truth, my fool? Shh. Come closer. Listen, and I will utter my truth -- a truth so heinous that you will wish you had never looked upon me---

SARTORIUS
Nemesis! Neither your magic nor your dementia can save you.

This one has broken through. Others will follow.

The Nemesis GESTURES at Sartorius. A BOLT OF LIGHT comes from the Nemesis' raised hand -- hurtling toward Sartorius who suddenly WRITHES in pain.

NEMESIS
(quietly sadistic)
Speak up, Sartorius. I don't hear you.

But, strangling, Sartorius can only squawk and squirm.
NEMESIS
(contemptuously)
The great alchemists.
(to CAMERA, threatening)
And you. Now it's time for you join your friends ... in hell.

He raises a hand to conjure with, directing it menacingly at us. A ball of fire forms at the tip of his fingers. We're next.

SOPHIA begins a CHANT in an unknown tongue. SARTORIUS joins in, then KAINE and MALVEAUX.

THE ALCHEMISTS
(in unison)
Solve et Coagula: volatile and fixed: Terra, Aqua, Aer and Ignis--you are released.

FX - THE FOUR ELEMENTS SEEMS TO EMANATE FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE SARCOPHAGI.

NEMESIS
AAAARGH!

THE ELEMENTS INVADE THE SCREEN: FIRST FIRE, WATER, EARTH--UNTIL THEY FILL THE ENTIRE SCREEN--BLOCKING OUR VIEW OF THE NEMESIS. AIR BLOWS ALL THE ELEMENTS AWAY AND WHEN THE SCREEN HAS CLEARED, THE NEMESIS IS GONE.

The spenseweed comment is great, and should be kept.













As for Sartorius' comment that "This one has broken through. Others will follow", I will repeat my concern with the idea of the Forbidden Lands. Did the player really have to break through anything to arrive at this location? And does the Nemesis' magic really deserve credit for the barrier between the Forbidden Lands and
the outside world, as is implied in this comment by Sartorius? The idea as you presented it to me seemed needless and somewhat convoluted and confusing, and furthermore, it is hard for me to tell
exactly what Sartorius is trying to communicate here.

SOPHIA
(to CAMERA)
You must act quickly. Our powers are still weak, and...
(nodding towards archway)
he'll be back.

KAINE
(to CAMERA)
Return to our worlds. Find and create our alchemical metals. Perhaps, this time, we can set things right.

SARTORIUS
In our worlds, you'll see many strange sights, ghosts, visions. Don't be distracted from learning the secrets of the art.

SOPHIA
The Orrery is where the path to our worlds begins. Go now.

The spirits of the Alchemists dematerialize, and the ball dims, revealing itself to be made of gold [animation_actor]. As the light fades, the ball drops and lands in the center of the pentagram with a clunk.

NOTE: SOPHIA'S AND SARTORIUS' SARCOPHAGI ARE CLOSEST TO THE ALTAR.
All speak to CAMERA.
SOPHIA
(to CAMERA)

The player clicks on the sphere, and it becomes a [cursor_object]. The player may once again move to any area of the temple space. If she returns to the Venus, she will get a clue to use the Orrery. However, the access to the portals is found in the Orrery room N of the altar. The gold sphere can only be used on the Orrery. Clicking anywhere else with it will produce no reaction.
8.04 The Gold Sphere
The player clicks on the sphere, and it becomes a [cursor_object]. The player may once again move to any area of the temple space. If she returns to the Venus, she will get a clue to use the Orrery.
