PROGRAMMING A ZORK GAME

One of the great achievements of the original Zork games was the creation of the parser and the Zork Interpretive Language.

Zork Grand Inquisitor has its own version of a specialized language for Coding. It's called DouglaScript. Invented for Zork Nemesis and refined for ZGI, DouglaScript allows our awesome programming team to sculpt the art, sound and puzzles into playable areas, optimized for use in the Zvision engine.

As part of the development process on ZGI, we completely rewrote our programming tools to allow for faster programming and more complex code. The result is seen in all the wrong answers and cool animations, sound effects and voice-overs.

I have been fortunate to work on both Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor and in some ways feel the thrill of creating new technologies as did those pioneering Infocom programmers.
