When worn, the Necklace of Fear emits intense chills up the spines of sensitive creatures. But in a totally evil environment, its effect is one of charm and lust.

Witch Itah was once in possession of this powerful talisman, but a cowardly little half-troll near Shanbar lifted it from her hut while she was out. Instilling fear into his brothers, this half-troll used its enchantment to quickly usurp the position of troll leader.

In 1647 GUE, the Sweepstakes Winner defeated the half-troll clan and gained the Necklace of Fear. It was used to scare the webbing out of a giant spider in the Forest of the Spirits that had blocked the path to Flood Control Dam #3 (giant spiders are especially sensitive to the tingling fear it produces). If the Necklace of Fear was one of the items tossed into the pits in the Citadel of Zork, it may have been forever lost.
